Artist: Z.B. Aids
Title: For Franz
Hendrik Hegray, aka Z.B. Aids, is an unpredictable, iconoclastic, and often provocative figure on the Parisian underground scene, whether through his graphic work, his music, or his life—a truly astonishing outsider. Z.B. Aids is one of his many musical projects that blend no-technics guitar, residual electronics, and demagnetized tapes, embodying an aesthetic of disappointment and entropy. During an exhibition at the Escougnou-Cetraro gallery, he confided to Lily Reynaud Dewar: "I'd love to be an outsider artist, live in the countryside, make hideous paintings on wood, shoot empty tin cans with a pistol, and be left alone. But, well, I'm still too cultured to be an outsider. So I don't know..." His musical background indeed spills out like an overflowing sink, a remnant of industrial music, RRR productions, and Coum Transmissions. Hendrik Hegray is a kind of brilliant dilettante who sets about sabotaging anything that might be achieved and achieve any kind of recognition. For him, the underground and DIY are not trivial concepts. (Michel Henritzi in Revue et Corrigée, September 2023)
