Title: Still Ist Die Nacht
Nuova Materia presents Still Ist Die Nacht...
Taking its name from the opening lines of Heinrich Heine's Der Doppelgänger — later set to music by Franz Schubert — Still Ist Die Nacht is a collection that maps the quiet distances between collaborators.
The release brings together three projects rooted in the work of Aleksandr Popkov: Буна, formed with Yaroslav Krasnov; Infinite Source Loops, with Nadja Sky and Time Consumer; and 0018, a collaboration between Administration Des Ventes, Nadja Sky and Time Consumer. Much of the material was recorded across distance, with parts developed independently and later assembled into their final forms.
The recordings draw on sampled acoustic instruments, guitars, and a detuned upright piano — heard across tracks such as Hellas, Letit, and Sotni Kolokolen. Буна's Doppelgänger takes Schubert's setting of Heine's poem as its source, filtered through Fyodor Chaliapin's interpretation of the work.
Threaded throughout are texts by Novalis, Rainer Maria Rilke, Joseph Brodsky, Yaroslav Krasnov, Rezo Amashukeli, Shota Iatashvili, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Heine himself — writers drawn together less by period or tradition than by a shared preoccupation with night, shadow, and the self returned as stranger.
